The importance of learning Portuguese for business or career reasons is increasing dramatically with the growth of South American / Latin American economies, the level of language skill required for these reasons vary from fluent to sufficient, but with these economies emerging amongst the fastest growing in this century, a new dawn for the Portuguese language as a world language is evident, whilst one of the most spoken languages worldwide for centuries, it somehow lived in the shadow of past glory and past global empire, as the Portuguese speaking countries economies somehow have suffered in the recent past for diverse reasons, the recent and quick economic progress of these economies have distinguished a need for businesses to have language resources to permit effective communication. The fact that the English language is not widely studies in these nations puts the language skills as a definite advantage for career progress and job seeking. In the site we have had a significant increase in translation requests and short term contracts to provide business services, in the form of translation and training, from Brazilian Portuguese phrases to intensive training and Portuguese translation services.
We are considering putting together an experimental mini crash course in the form of online Portuguese lessons, as suggested by our readers focusing initially in Portuguese language pronunciation, numbers and common phrases and general vocabulary. Phrases in Portuguese can be challenging for English speakers as the structure differs from the English language.
We hope you will enjoy reading our articles, we will be updating our Portuguese translater pages to make it faster and easier to use, until then our standard email translator service will be fully functional, providing online Portuguese translation services, both free and paid to match your individual or business requirements, this site is more focused in Portuguese from Portugal, a Brazilian Portuguese translator is in our plans also, offering a more comprehensive and human supervised Brazilian Portuguese translation with necessary suggestions and advice, far more accurate than an error prone instant online Portuguese translation service, that rarely can be trusted for correct context use.
We pride ourselves of offering free human translation services, one of the very few sites that do not charge for small translations and offer comprehensive translation services at a fraction of the price of other sites out there, along with the fact that we do take time to offer free advice and do our best to keep track of the best resources to learn the language and progress, we recognize that there is no easy way but consider that learning can be fun and relaxing if the correct path is followed to enrich ones skills and added value for any curriculum.
We hope to continue to serve our readers in the very best way and assist with their progress within our possibilities.

There is no bigger deterrent than the feeling of helplessness and the lack of direction. Not often is possible to learn at a steady rate, one should sometimes take a break, but make sure that after the break studying resumes, it is a lot like physical training. Total control over routine is not possible, but it is possible to resume course at all times, this way one is sure to continue to practice, reaching a goal relatively easy.

The greatest issue when it comes to learning seems to confidence in practising interaction in the language one desires to master, most of us seem to feel some sort of inhibition in trying to interact with native speakers, with fears of feeling inadequate or failing to communicate effectively with the subjects of our communication stream. These feeling can be triggered by cultural differences and personal fears that might not have a logic reason to exist, many urban legends of people receiving indignant treatment when trying to speak a different language, or even fear of hostile treatment or being made fun of, are most often unfunded. In our experience, some of us speaking as many as five languages, we tend to find a good reception from native speakers when we try to communicate in their language, most of the time people will take it extremely well and will actually try hard to communicate back to us in a manner to facilitate our understanding.

But that said, we are often queried with something described as “Instant Immersion”, that means learning the language while we are in the languages native environment, this tend to be understood as the best way to “speed learn”. It tends to work very well for several reasons, mostly due to our brains ability to perceive the environment around us and make use of instincts and processing qualities that we have dormant in us, this is also the way we learn to speak our own native languages from early childhood, by picking up from our parents and people we interact, along with several media.

This takes us to the media, since the concept of interaction can be easily understood.

-Books and magazines-

Some of us back in our time at school, learned a lot of new words by reading comic books, magazines and even bilingual books, magazine we read tend to match our interests, thus putting us in an “automatic attention span” that can be very helpful to learn.

-Product labels and technical manuals-

Many of us have been confronted with buying a new electric appliance that brings instructions in a foreign language, less common today, but it did use to happen very often, we tend to find that a combination of illustrations and some foreign writing can still be understood as easily. We often buy cosmetics and similar products abroad when on holiday, that very often have instructions in a foreign language, that because of our familiarity with the products and its uses, we could easily incorporate into our methods of acquiring vocabulary.

-Signs and directions-

Because these things fall more and more into design conventions, we can easily understand a “no smoking” sign or traffic directions in a foreign language, these sign are designed often taking language barriers into account, making use of informative graphics and design conventions that make them similar in any country.

- -

These are a few examples of materials available for free everywhere that can be used ti increase vocabulary and understand sentences of an essential nature, they don’t teach it all by themselves, but do speed up learning when combines with an excellent structured learning program like This excellent program, that is in our opinion the very best course you can get, it should be everything you need to take your language skills to a high level.

Welcome to our Blog

First of all we would like to introduce our project. This Blog is part of our most recent project, and main domain:

http://www.portuguese.im

The website intends to be of an informative nature for all that have intention of learning the Portuguese language at any level, and for any reason, but mainly for people that are looking for an introduction on the language and learning methods. This is not really a website with the more academic learner in mind, although all are welcome to have their say and share their learning progress.

The blog will focus on discussing the diverse courses, books and translation software presented on the site, or suggested by any readers. We intend to start a forum as soon as we have a larger crowd. Please read the terms of service on the main website before using any of the free translation services we offer, we know this kind of thing is quite boring, but necessary.

We also offer paid translation services for larger amounts of text, or for a more specified translation, please inquire, the prices are really unbeatable, and the translation will be executed by a native speaker with academic background in Portugal, Great Britain, or both, it can be as little as £15 so its well worth inquiring before committing yourself elsewhere, you will be this way getting an excellent service, and will help maintaining this site.

We will get these articles up and running quickly, and hope you will pop by frequently.
